Richard James Martin Sr

Richard James Martin, born June 20, 1955, transitioned from Labor to rest on October 5, 2019. Richard, affectionately known as “Ricky” received his education in the Delaware Public School system. He later went on to serve in the United States Army National Guard for 12 years. Ricky worked for several years with AstraZeneca in their science department. Later in his career, he was employed with the State of Delaware until he reached retirement age. Ricky enjoyed spending time with his family. He especially loved getting together to cook and eat crabs. Richard loved to cook. Some of his specialties were liver and onions, chili, duck, and brussels sprouts. He enjoyed listening to the Commodores, Heat Wave, and jazz music. In the summer months you could catch him in Rodney Square at the Jazz Festival. On any given day, you could talk to Ricky and he would brag about his children and his “grands”. He enjoyed taking his grandchildren to baseball games and other fun events. His famous words were “kiss my grands for me”. He was truly proud of his family. Richard is preceded in death by his mother Geneva Clark, his father, Richard James Evans Sr., and his grandmother Lucille Chester. In addition to his parents and grandparents Richard is preceded in death by sisters Yvette Evans, Crystol Denise Evans and brothers Mark Wright and Curtis Clark Sr. Richard leaves to cherish his memory siblings Evan Sean Wright, Ian Wright (Kim), Lawren Lolly, Tamera Evans-Roberts, Jaques “Yaigab Yasharahla” Evans, Randolph Wright, Gregory Martin, Latanya Wright, Josetta Wright, Joyce Kennedy, Jonathan Kennedy, George Clark, Renee Martin, Robin Wright, Rosa Jenkins, Angela Matthews, Alanda Cyrus (Donald), Kathryn White, Jonathan Urquhart (Monika), and Kim Ward. His three daughters, Lelia Gatlin (Day-Shawn), Genesis Johnson (Jerray), and Sahiya Martin. One son, Richard Martin Jr. Fifteen Grandchildren Nathifa Cole, Dorthea Gatlin, Maria Gatlin, Joshua Gunter Jr, Isaiah Gatlin, Sahiyah Martin, Tavaaon Holland, Josiah Miller, Ariyanna Miller, Nevaeh Miller, Jeremiah Holland, Jacob Gatlin, Syncere-Lee Martin, Jerray Johnson Jr. and Jaleel Johnson. Two great-grand children Nilah Morris and Maliah Moore. Best friends Rob Morton and Ben Lolley and a host of other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
