Mary Lillian Bossack

Mary L. Bossack July 23, 1950–July 31, 2023 On July 31st, Mary Lillian Bossack entered into eternal rest. While we are heartbroken at her passing, we know her faith and trust that she is free of all illness and pain. There is no way to capture Mary in words. To meet Mary was to know how deeply she loved, and how much she shared that love and herself with her family and friends. She loved her family beyond measure and her granddaughters were the light of her life. Her family includes so many friends of many decades. Mary is survived by her daughter, Sheida Comacho Garcia (Freddy) and her granddaughters, Sheidelyz and Gileny (Rio Grande, Puerto Rico), her sister Anne Marie (John Richard) Redmon (Greenville, NC), her brother Frederick (Barbara) Bossack (Georgetown, SC), 12 nieces and nephews, 30 great-nieces and nephews, and countless friends. Mary made friends everywhere she went, built lasting relationships, and made connections between family and friends from all parts of her life, drawing everyone together. We are comforted by so many memories of joy, fun, and simply endless love. The outpouring of love, prayers and memories demonstrate the countless hearts and lives she has touched: as a daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, friend, neighbor, colleague, mentor, and throughout her 31 years protecting children and families. It is impossible to remember Mary without thinking about her love of travel, especially to her winter visits to Puerto Rico and her road trips with the Road Warriors. Born in Teaneck, NJ, Mary graduated from Kean University and worked as a social worker for the State of New Jersey in the Division of Youth and Family services for 31 years, in both child protection and adoption services. She helped countless children and families throughout her career. After her retirement in 2010, she continued training social workers through Rutgers University and Stockton University. She spoke at conferences about the value of a Lifebook for children in foster care. Mary lived for many years in Jersey City, NJ. After retirement, she moved to Wilmington, DE, where she created a new group of wonderful neighbors and friends. She also loved her parish community at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Mary is predeceased by her parents, Edwin R. Bossack and Evelyn Camp Bossack, her sister Evelyn (Lyn) Maynard, and her brother, Paul R. Bossack. There will be a Memorial Mass, August 19th at 10:30 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1012 N. French Street, Wilmington, DE. Reception to follow in the church hall. The Memorial Mass will be live streamed on the parish YouTube channel. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Mary of the Lakes Church, 40 Jackson Road, Medford at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 26th. Visitation precedes the Mass at 10:00 a.m. in the Church. The Funeral Mass will be live streamed at the parish YouTube channel. Interment will follow on August 28th. In lieu of flowers, Mary requested donations to Mary’s Prayer Team of Gratitude at the 2023 Light the Night Walk for the The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or to her parish, St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1012 French Street, Wilmington, DE.
