Lupino Blackman

Lupino Blackman, age 66 peacefully departed this life on May 7, 2024, at Christiana Care Hospital in Newark, DE. She was born on April 5th, 1958 in Norfolk, VA to Lula Bell McCloud Spencer and James M Spencer. Lupino spent her early years living in Pantego, North Carolina before moving to Philadelphia, PA with her mother and siblings. She attended Walter G Smith Elementary School; Vare Junior High and Southwark High School, all located in Philadelphia. Lupino continued her education at Shippensburg University in PA and Bennett College in North Carolina majoring in Special Education. While at Bennett College she joined the Swing Phi Swing Social Club. Lupino was employed for 25 years at Elwyn Inc. as a Residential Living Staff (RLS). She was an active member of the Union and served as Shop Steward staff of the International Union of SEIU Local 668 out of Philadelphia, PA for most of her employment with Elwyn. She received several awards from COPE (Community on Political Education). She was very involved either with the Union assisting with elections, voter registration, rallies, training, membership drives, organizing, and lobbying the PA State Capital of PA. Lupino enjoyed reading, knitting, and creating gits baskets. She loved to laugh and party with her friends and family. She was a strong woman with a passion for helping others. Always assisted others when asked but what a temper she had when she felt passionate about something. The poem written by her cousin Tonya Smith-McCloud sums her up to a "T". Lupino was preceded in death by her beloved husband Samuel and her son Thaddeus Gus Blackman; her parents Lula Bell and James Spencer; brother James Spencer, Jr; Left to cherish her memory are her loving sister, Frederica Hortense Spencer, brother Mitchell W Spencer (Renee) Gary Spencer (Louise), and Barry T. Spencer (Mary). Johnnie E Spencer, Kelcy Spencer, Ashlie Spencer, Dorothy Peartree-Small (Larry-d), Beaulah Holly, Valeria Holly-Reese, Tinga Chase , Latoya Chase-Ifehni (Nnani), Constance Chase, Denise Williams, Latrinette S Williams-Johnson (Ernest) foster son Sylvanus Long, her favorite Uncle Carlton A McCloud (Catherine), one grandson and four granddaughters, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. grandchildren, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
