Kalem B Benjamin

Kalem Bosworth Benjamin, fondly known as Kem, Benny, and Uncle Benny to many. Born to Ann-Mariah Smith Attwood and David Benjamin, Kalem was lovingly raised by his grandmother Mary Joseph in the tranquil village of Bolans in Antigua. His educational path from Bolans Primary to Antigua Boys High School laid the foundation for his future endeavors. At the tender age of 17, Kalem embarked on a new adventure, immigrating to the United States and settling in the Bronx, NY. There, he discovered his passion for mechanics and furthered his education at the Alfred E. Smith Career and Technical Education School, earning his certificates in Automotive Technology—a craft that would shape his career and life's mission. In New York, Kalem met Clara Morgan, the love of his life, and they wed in 1969. Their 55-year union was filled with love, laughter, and the joy of raising three children: sons Kalem Jr., Collin Sr., and beloved daughter Sherelda. 5 grandchildren; Collin Jr., Kevin, Kaelyn, Kaila, Kavis, and a great-granddaughter Mia Kalem and Clara purchased their first home in an area called "The Valley " in Bronx, NY, and it quickly became the heart of the neighborhood. His home was a haven for laughter and connection, with Uncle Benny's renowned cookouts uniting family and friends in joy and camaraderie with rounds of games like cards and dominoes. Years later the family relocated to the south to North Carolina and the family grew and flourished as Kalem's dedication to family extended to his successful mechanic business, where his skills and craftsman-ship earned him community admiration. But whether in the Bronx, North Carolina, or Wilmington, DE where they settled in their retirement, their homes were always vibrant with laughter, love, and a welcoming spirit. In retirement, Kalem indulged in his passions for carpentry, baseball, fishing, gardening, and travel. His meticulous home renovations reflected his zest for life, inspiring everyone around him to this day. As we bid farewell to Uncle Benny, let us hold dear the memories of his love, resilience, and dedication. His legacy is not just in his mechanical expertise but in the endless kindness he spread. Today, we honor a man whose spirit continues to inspire us to embrace life with the same passion and joy that Kalem Bosworth Benjamin did! Kalem leaves to cherish everlasting moments and memories with his three children, sons Kalem Jr., Collin Sr. and daughter Sherelda. 5 grandchildren Collin Jr. Kevin, Kaelyn, Kaila Kavis and a great granddaughter Mia.
