Doretta Lee-Polack

Doretta Lee-Polack, known affectionately as Beverly, transitioned peacefully in her sleep after courageously battling a series of illnesses on March 12, 2024, at Cadia Healthcare Pike Creek, Wilmington, Delaware. Born on August 19, 1956, to the late Leonard Lee and Dorrel Sanderson in the beautiful parish of St. Mary, Jamaica, West Indies. She spent most of her early years in the parish of Portland. Doretta's vibrant spirit and loving nature touched the lives of all who knew her throughout her 67 years. Doretta received her foundational education in the Jamaican public school system, which instilled in her a lifelong love for learning and personal growth. In 1985, Doretta migrated to the United States in pursuit of better opportunities, a testament to her determination and resilience. Furthering her skills, she completed a Business Skills Program at Professional Staffing Associates. Throughout her professional life, Doretta proved to be a dedicated and hardworking individual. She was employed at Pathmark Supermarket, Value City Furniture Store, Bovell Bails Bond, and JP Morgan Chase, where she contributed her talents as a data entry clerk. Her diligence and friendly demeanor made her a beloved colleague and a valuable asset to every team she was a part of. Doretta's exuberant personality shone through in her many interests. She was an avid cook, and her dishes were the centerpiece of family gatherings, infusing, love and flavor into every meal. Traveling was another passion of hers, as she loved to explore new places and immerse herself in different cultures. Attending live concerts, visiting casinos, playing bingo, and listening to music were among her favorite pastimes. The melodies of Luther Vandross and Beres Hammond, her favorite artists, often filled her home, bringing joy and rhythm to her life. Doretta’s legacy is carried on through her loving family. She was once married to Dave Polack, with whom she shared many years of life's journey. A devoted mother to her daughters, Suzette Brown and Tesia Smith. Although her son, Ikee Polack, predeceased her, his memory remained a guiding light in her life. Her love extended to her stepchildren, Janice Polack and Sonel Shaw, who she embraced as her own. Doretta was a doting grandmother to Racquel and Roxanne Knight, Kenneth and Khourie Green, T. Saige Charlemagne, Korri Banks, Javon Thornton, Genesys, and Serenity Shaw. She also adored her great-grandchildren, Tanika and Joshien Harriott, who brought immense joy to her later years. She leaves behind a legacy of love and strength to her siblings, Patrick lee, Leslie Lee (Verlett), Hazel Lee-Campbell (Worrel), Cecil Lee, Odel Lee (Steph), Alderine Anderson, Anthony Beckford and Steve Beckford (predeceased). Doretta's extended family, including aunts, an uncle, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, will remember her for her warmth, generosity, and the laughter she brought into their lives. Doretta's journey from the lush landscapes of Jamaica to the bustling cities of the United States is a story of perseverance and hope. Her life was a testament to the power of family, the importance of community, and the joy of living each day to the fullest. She navigated life's challenges with grace and emerged as a beacon of light for those around her. As we bid farewell to Doretta Lee-Polack, we do so with gratitude for the time we shared with her, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of love, music, and unforgettable memories.
