Ashton Mairura

His Story Ashton Mairura was born on July 20, 1979, in Nairobi, Kenya, to the late Rachel Wanja Chabari and the late William Mairura. He spent most of his younger years in Kenya and later moved to the United States. When he first arrived, he was welcomed by his sister, Sabina. He later moved to Boston, where he worked at the YMCA Summer Camp. After camp, he decided to move back closer to family and returned to live with his sister, Sabina, until he later moved to Houston, then North Carolina. In 2007, their mother convinced him to return to Delaware, where his entire family was living. Ashton shared a very close bond with his late wife, Ericka Wright. Ericka’s passing left Ashton deeply wounded. He also shared close bonds with his siblings—his late sister Lucy Muthoni, late brother Patrick Gitari, and late sister Carolyne Njeru. He is survived by his siblings: brothers Simon Kaimuri and Winfred Kinyua, and sisters Faith Karimi and Sabina Mairura. Together, they built a foundation of love and support that shaped Ashton into the loving and kind man he was. He was also a loving uncle to his nieces and nephews, whom he cherished deeply. Ashton played a unique role in their lives, offering guidance, support, encouragement, and unwavering love. To them, he was more than just an uncle. His warmth extended to every member of the family, and his generosity will live on in the lives he touched. He leaves behind his beloved nieces and nephews: Ann Gaceri, Darnelle Mwendwa, Rael Kawira, Bernice Mbere, Carol Makena, Sharon Gitari, Dorien Mwendwa, Darlene Mwendwa, Destiny Kaimuri, and Isaac Jean Lewis, as well as his beloved grandson, Jeff, whom he loved dearly. Ashton valued spending time with his family. He also leaves behind many cousins, extended family members, and friends who will forever cherish the memories they shared with him. From a young age, Ashton was generous and full of life. He loved to help and support those around him. He enjoyed sharing his IT knowledge with the younger generation because he believed in helping them improve their technical skills. He was also very knowledgeable about health-related topics and, without hesitation, would share herbal remedies that could help with many ailments. Though he preferred to keep to himself in his later years, Ashton was a loyal friend. He would go above and beyond to help those he cared about with anything they needed. Even though he is no longer with us, his lessons, love, and spirit remain. Today, as we say our goodbyes, we find comfort in knowing that Ashton is at peace, reunited with his wife, father, mother, sisters, and brother, and is watching over us. “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” — Psalm 34:18 (NIV) “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” — Matthew 11:28 (NIV) As we celebrate Ashton’s life, may we also remember those who carry silent battles within their hearts. Depression, grief, anxiety, and emotional pain are often invisible, yet they are very real. Sometimes the people who smile the brightest are carrying the heaviest burdens. If you or someone you love is struggling, please know that you are not alone. There is hope, there is help, and there are people who care. Reaching out for help is a sign of courage, not weakness. May Ashton’s life remind us to love more deeply, check on one another more often, listen without judgment, and never underestimate the power of a simple conversation, a kind word, or simply letting someone know they matter.
