Albert Harrison Sr

A life that touched so many hearts Albert Eugene Harrison Sr. was born on October 28, 1941 in Baltimore, MD to the parents of Andrew Eugene Harrison and Inez Myles Harrison-Hadrian. Albert was raised by his mother and maternal grandparents. He was educated in Baltimore’s public school system attending Dunbar High School. He earned a GED in 1977. As a child, his Grandparents instilled strong work ethics in him. Albert worked as a shoeshine boy, delivered new papers, was a caddy on the gulf course and did other odd jobs. At the age of 18 years old, Albert worked for Paramount Furniture Company driving the delivery truck. He trained and became a Certified Tractor Trailer driver. In 1961, he married Carolyn Jean Barnes and from this union, four children were born, Alison, Albert, Jr., Darlene and Renee. In 1967, he decided to relocate to Buffalo, NY. This was a difficult time in Albert’s life. He acquired employment at General Motors in Buffalo, NY for 5 ½ years. In 1971, he married Barbara Walker Jackson from Baltimore, MD and from this union extended Keith and LaTonya; later Troy and Corinthia were born. Albert and Barbara were married for 53 years and would have celebrated their 54th anniversary on July 2, 2025. In 1973, the family relocated to Wilmington, Delaware to be closer to his grandparents. Albert worked for Jones Motor Freight Company and then the Federal Government at the Philadelphia Navy Yard where he retired after 23 years of service. Albert was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend. He enjoyed being a door keeper in God’s house! Albert joined Coleman Memorial United Methodist Church in 1980. He was a dedicated member of the Usher board at Coleman and was also the president of the Usher Board for many years. Albert was known for his struct when he marched. No one could march like Mr. Harrison! Albert was also a member of the Interdenominational Ushers Association of Delaware who honored him in 2016, with the Usher of the year Award. Exercise was very important to Albert. He worked out at the Wilmington Swim Club for years before joining Planet Fitness. He was also a proud member of his social club, The Reindeers. Albert was also known as Big Al, “the one and only” as he amusingly reminded us! Albert leaves to honor and cherish his memory, wife Barbara Harrison, children; Alison Jones, Keith Jackson, LaTonya Burley (DeAnthony), Renee Harrison, Troy Harrison and his baby girl Corinthia Inez Harrison. His children that preceded him in death, Albert Harrison, Jr. and Darlene Lewis. Albert also leaves to honor and cherish his memory 13 precious grandchildren, Donnetta Griffin (Jamal), Antoine Harrison, Quiana Jones, Shantel Adams (Michael), Dayauna Ford (Anthony), Erin Jenkins (Keem), Sherai Burley-Steede, Erika Burley, Zachary Jackson, LaTonya Burley, II; Joy Davis (Johnathan), DeAnthony Jr., Zion Jackson and 11 great- grandchildren. Terry, Quianae’, Qui’Nya, Deaira, Sanaa, Antoine, Jr., Malayah, Emmitt, Michael III, Maraiya and Phoenix; a host of nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, cousins and friends. Albert’s kindness has always been a profound mark on his family and friends; he will truly be missed.
