Shirley Mae Truitt was born on October 8, 1943, in Wilmington, Delaware to the late Lenford J. Truitt, Sr and Hilda P. Truitt. She departed this earthly life on Saturday, June 11, 2022. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Pete Peterson, Oscar M. Truitt, Luther L. Truitt and Lenford J. Truitt, Jr; her sisters-in-law, Harriet Robbins-Truitt, Roberta Truitt, and son-in-love, Gregory Rogers. Shirley received her education in Delaware Public schools. Sociable, straight-forward, fun and loving are some of the many words that describe her personality. She loved to cook and socialize. She always knew what was going on and when. She was a confidant and sacrificed so much to ensure others were taken care of. Regardless of what she had, she was the definition of selfless. She was the epitome of a homemaker and it didn’t have to be her home. Shirley leaves to cherish her sweet memories to her six children: Joan Bennett Truitt, Curtis Hutson (Lori), Sharon Tickles (George), Kenneth Truitt (Tia), Daja Truitt and Cheryl Truitt; sister, Joan Truitt-Brown (Francis); sister-in-law, Shirley H. Truitt; twenty-five grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Although we miss her tremendously, we find comfort and peace in knowing that she is no longer suffering and will heed the advice she often gave…”Keep it moving.”
