Robert Lee Staton

October 3, 1958 - May 25, 2022

Robert Lee Staton, 63, of New Castle, Delaware, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday May 25, 2022, at Christiana Care Hospital in Newark, Delaware. Robert was born on October 3, 1958, in Plymouth North Carolina to Ethel Lee Gilliams and William Staton Sr. Robert was known as "Rob" and many other affectionate names. Robert was a 1977 graduate of Plymouth High School in Plymouth, North Carolina, where he excelled in baseball and became the state wrestling champion. Upon graduation from high school, Robert enlisted in the United States Army, where he served his country faithfully until he was Honorably discharged. Robert was employed at New Century Transportation Inc, he gave them over 20 plus, years of dedicated service In 2013 Robert moved to Delaware and worked for Old Dominion Freight - until his illness caused him to retire early. While working at Old Dominion he received the Service 2.OD Award in 2019, for his outstanding work performance and dedicated service. Robert also worked part-time for Fed Ex while holding down a full-time job with Old Dominion, all while battling cancer. Although Robert drove a Dodge Ram truck, his colleagues would tease him and tell him he needed a Ford, because He was” built Ford Tough”. He was a diehard Washington Reskins football fan before they became known as, the Washington Commanders. He enjoyed being in his man cave watching and enjoying sports. He was a very outgoing and friendly person. Robert's hobbies included: riding his motorcycle, playing horseshoes, bowling, and playing baseball. Robert was very competitive and excelled at all sports he played Along Robert’s journey he found his best friend, Barbara Faye Henry and they joined in Holy Matrimony on April 5th 2017. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, the late Ethel Lee Webb and the late William Staton, Sr., three sisters, Doris Teen Pittman, Lola Mae Ruffin and Alee Staton, two brothers-in-law, Matthew Pittman and George Cooper, two nephews, Michael Pittman, Hamin Rashada and one great nephew Shakir Rashada. Robert leaves to cherish his memories, a loving and devoted wife, Barbara Faye Staton, three daughters, Kendra ( Michael) Thomas, Ebone' ( Andre’) Mottas and Shayenna Days, three sons, Jonas (Demi) Pittman, Robert Pittman, Ryan (Sherelle) Staton, six sisters, Geraldine ( Joe Louis) Baker, Doris ( Charles) Sanders, Rosa ( Nathaniel) Norman, Janie Cooper, Fannie Staton, Sandra Faye Staton, one brother, William ( Gina) Staton, Jr., one additional sister-in-law, Yolanda Walton and two additional brother in laws, Michael Jackson and Dennis Jackson. Robert is also survived by fifteen grandchildren, Marquis, Iyana, Nasir, Andre' Jr, Michael, Jr., Christopher, Chanelle, I'mani, Jonas Jr., Miyah, Ajanae, Omari, Keondre, Kayden, Mason and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A very close friend, Jerry Lewis Sanders and he shared a special bond with his nephew, Joe Baker.
