Teresa A Butler

Teresa Ann Cale was born January 10, 1966, in Wilmington Memorial Hospital, Delaware, to Helen D. Briscoe and Harvey L. Cale. On Saturday, October 14, 2023, she completed her earthly journey to eternal rest. Teresa received her early formal education at William Penn High School, New Castle, Delaware, and Paul M. Hodgson Vocational Technical School, majoring in food service. After graduating in 1984, Teresa attended Wilford Academy in Philadelphia, PA, for cosmetology. Teresa was very artistic with her makeup and had a style of her own. At a young age, Teresa always liked to crack jokes and rap with some well-coordinated rhymes; no one wanted to get her started. Teresa was a good debater and could organize a protest for anything. She worked as a secretary in the Federal Building, Citibank, and numerous other jobs. On January 14, 1994, Teresa married her best friend, Johann Butler. From this union, they had three daughters, and she helped raise her six stepsons. Teresa often had a house full of children. Despite Teresa’s personal struggles, she had a big heart and would often open her doors to others in need. She enjoyed spending time with her daughters, grandchildren, sponsor, friends, and daily talks with Johann. Teresa also enjoyed African American history and family ancestry. Her past hobbies were fishing, making jewelry, and being a self-taught car mechanic. Teresa would get underneath the hood of a car in a minute, often asking her father for advice. She was a lover of many animals, but one of her favorite pets was "Buddy," her pet dog that would play dead. Teresa moved to Philadelphia in 2011 and decided to make this her new home of residence. Teresa was preceded in death by her stepson William “Will” Duker, brother Derrell Williams, sister Jenee Cale, sister-in-law Tina Williams, paternal grandparents Harvey and Roseanna Cale, and maternal grandparents Dorothy and Silas Briscoe. Teresa leaves to forever cherish her memories with Helen Cale (Calvin Barbour), Harvey (Joyce) Cale, and three sisters: Cheryl (James) Richardson, Susie Bleen, and Angie Williams. Two brothers, Julius Williams and Charles “Toot” Brown, three daughters: JoVanna, Teresa, and Artoria Butler, and five stepsons: Ahmad, Johann (Chaletta) Butler, Alijajuane, Isaiah Duker, and Stacey Bailey; grandchildren: Makenna, Leandre, and Khaleel Butler; Camar Bailey, William Jr. Smith; Jenyia Andrews; Arianna Duker; Kayanalise and Zavanalise Camacho-Duker; Mason and Mathew, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, lifelong friend JoHann Butler, and close cousin Frank “Al” Scott.
