Pommie Lee Myrick

POMMIE LEE MYRICK – affectionately known as “Pommie,” was born on June 8, 1926, in Cordele, Georgia, to the late Mattie Bullup and the late Dock Brown. At age 99, she peacefully departed this life on October 28, 2025, surrounded by her family. She received her early education in public schools of Cordele, Georgia and graduated from Chris County High School. Pommie lived a long and beautiful ninety-nine remarkable years filled with warmth, laughter, and strength. The youngest of seven children, she grew up surrounded by family and love, and in time became the last surviving member of her generation. She carried their stories, their humor, and their spirit with her, keeping their memory alive in the way only she could. She was known to many as a real “firecracker,” a woman with spark, quick wit, straight forwardness and a heart that never stopped caring. Her nickname said it all. She wasn’t afraid to speak her mind, and she did so with honesty, humor, and a twinkle in her eye. You always knew where you stood with her and that made her presence all the more special. Her hands told the story of her life. Hands that cooked countless food made with love like her sweet potato pies during the holidays, her favorite turnip greens, black-eyed peas and pinto beans with smoked neckbones and okra, played the piano with grace, and sewed with skill and patience. She could turn fabric into something beautiful, making handmade dresses that carried both her talent and her heart. Every stitch, every note, every meal was a reflection of her care and creativity. She spent many years working in nursing homes, caring for others with kindness and compassion. Helping people brought her purpose, and she gave her time and heart freely. Even as the years passed, she never lost her spark. She had lived nearly a century, but her spirit stayed young full of life, laughter, and love. To those who knew her, she was more than family or friend; she was a light, a force, a memory that will always make us smile. Pommie was preceded in death by her siblings, Johnny Green Brown, Willie Brown, Lizzie Mac Brown, Annie Mae Brown, Curtis Brown and Ella Mae Smith. She leaves to cherish her memory to a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other family and friends. Though she is no longer with us, her energy still shines in every story we share and every heart she touched. Her love, her laughter, and her fire live on like sunshine that never fades.
