A Life Well Lived Mildred Cordelia (Scott) Brown John 14:27 Jesus shared a wonderful gift with his disciples – a special peace for their minds and hearts. He reminded them that His peace was different from anything they could find in the world, encouraging them to let go of worry and fear. Mildred C. Brown passed away peacefully in her home. She was born on November 23, 1935, as the fourth child of the late Albert Elwood and Mary Gustavia (Cooper) Scott in Georgetown, Maryland. She grew up in the country, where she developed a deep appreciation for nature, finding peace and joy in its beauty and calming effects. Mildred's educational journey began at the Kent County Public Schools in Maryland, where she dedicated herself to achieving her aspirations and acquired a strong work ethic. Her ambitions were modest; she sought to become a wife, mother, and grandmother while attaining financial independence. She succeeded in all these endeavors and more. Her children and grandchildren admire her as a strong role model for achieving financial stability and security. Mildred's legacy is one of love, kindness, and care. Her warm and gentle voice reflected her loving nature, and she always focused on the best qualities in everyone. Her presence was like a ray of sunshine, brightening the lives of those around her. She was a devoted mother and a loving wife to the late George Houston Brown. Together, they had six children: Larry Houston, Valerie Ann, Lola Teresa, Mildred Loretta, Baby Cynthia, and Patricia Louise. Her family will always cherish her memory. Mildred's dedication to her work and family inspired all who knew her. Over seven decades, she fulfilled her responsibilities and provided for her loved ones. She held various positions throughout her career, demonstrating her passion for helping others. This was especially evident at the Fairlee Manor Recreation and Education Center, where she created unforgettable camping experiences for individuals with disabilities. She spent 30 years working at Pack & Process before retiring at age 65. She served as a role model for many. Despite facing many challenges, she remained determined, drawing from a deep well of strength and resolve. Her inspiring transformation into a humble individual serves as a reminder of resilience, demonstrating that it is possible to overcome any hardships that life may present. Mildred's home has always been her cherished sanctuary, a place once visited by the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King. Her adventurous spirit led her on beautiful journeys, from the sunlit Caribbean to local excursions, where she embraced each experience with an open heart. Mildred's faith was an integral part of her life. She was a lifelong member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Georgetown, Maryland, where she enjoyed participating in the Silver Leaf Chorus during her younger years. She had a curious nature and enjoyed exploring new churches, such as 8th Street Baptist Church, Faith City, and Sharon Temple Seventh Day Adventist Church, where she was fond of listening to the sermons of the late Pastor Claude Harris. Mildred frequently discussed the Word of God with her friend, Ms. Mary, who was a member of the Jehovah's Witnesses community. She believed that the most important aspect of faith is how we treat others daily. Her conviction was that we carry God in our hearts and minds when we show love and kindness to others. Her remarkable ability to connect with individuals came from her kind and forgiving nature, inspiring those around her to strive for greater compassion and understanding in their own lives. She believed that forgiveness and kindness were the most valuable gifts a family could give to one another, and her belief in this left a lasting impression on everyone she knew. Mildred's daughters, Lola T. (Brown) Hoxter and Loretta M. (Brown) Wilson, along with her brother, Charleston Johnson Scott, and sisters-in-laws, Debra Scott and Doris O. Scott, lovingly remember her as a woman of great honor. Her seven cherished grandchildren—Monique, Tracey, Stacey, George, Tishama, Patricia, and Wayne—along with her 15 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-great-great-grandchild —these six generations will carry on her memory and legacy. Mildred had a large and loving family, including many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Her nieces always made sure she was good, especially Andrea Sampson & Yvonne Hicks. She also cherished her close friendships with Ms. Ada Harrison, Ms. Laura Waters, and Ms. Arlene Lismore, known as the 8th Street Golden Girls. Loved ones who have passed before her; include (son) Larry H. Brown, (daughters) Valerie A. Brown-Dobson, Patricia L. Brown-Miller, Cynthia Brown, (son-in-law) William M. Hoxter Jr., (grandson) William M. Hoxter III, (siblings) Mary Louise Hopkins, Sarah Jeanette Oakley, Elwood Albert Scott, Ava Brenda Wheeler, and Donald C. Scott. These individuals undoubtedly played a significant role in her life. They are all deeply missed. She leaves her family some inspiring words: "I have achieved everything I wanted to do, and now it's time for me to rest. The Breath of Life that God gave to me will return to Him. I am at peace, and please don't be sad for me, for I am only going to sleep for a little while. Remember that we will all take this journey. Be good, do good, and I'll see you in the First Resurrection." Mom, you left us beautiful memories; your love will always be our guide.
