Frederick E Hawkes Jr

Frederick E. Hawkes, Jr. peacefully passed away at home on Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at the age of 58. Freddie, as he was affectionately called, was the only son of Barbara J. Bullock and Frederick E. Hawkes, Sr., born on December 19, 1964, in Wilmington, DE. He attended the public schools of New Castle County and graduated from William Penn High School in 1984. Over the years Freddie was employed with numerous companies in a variety of roles. Most recently, he was employed with ShopRite, until illness prevented him from working. Freddie was a loving, supportive, and outgoing person who loved life. He had a great sense of humor and true love for family. Freddie had a personal connection with his extended family members, and all his aunts, uncles and cousins recall that Freddie frequently made it a point to stop by to fellowship and check on them. And boy, do they have stories to tell. But most of all, it is well known that Freddie was a true momma’s boy. Always dapper and very stylish, Freddie took pride in his appearance. From the watch to the shades to the hat to the complete outfit – you could count on him to be clean from head to toe. Freddie had a huge heart. If he had and you were in need, what was his was yours. He was known for going into his mother’s freezer or even on her stove to give food to people who were hungry. He had a great passion for helping people and could be counted on to assist neighbors or any one in need with car repairs. Although he had many cars over the years, from the green Electra 225 (deuce and a quarter) to the yellow Lincoln, he truly loved riding his bicycle. He could be seen all over town riding that bike. While he loved and enjoyed watching most sports, football was his favorite. Freddie was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan, and despite being seriously ill, he made it his business to watch their last playoff game. On October 17, 1998, Freddie was joined in marriage to Marla Hawkes, who preceded him in death. Cherishing his memories are his sons, Frederick Bartley (Shevonne) of Roswell, GA; Darrius Anderson of Wilmington, DE; parents, Barbara J. Bullock and Frederick E. Hawkes, Sr., of DE; sisters, Stephanie Hawkes of La Plata, MD; Terri Fassett of Wilmington, DE; Robin Fassett of Lithonia, GA; and Charmaine Hawkes (Joanne) of Philadelphia, PA; four grandsons, Kazmiere, Kazaryus, Jahkia and Tayden; three granddaughters, Kaziah, Kazondria and Aniya; one sister-in-law, Marcia Lynch (Keith); two brothers-in-law, Leland Church and Linnell Church; five aunts, Frances Bates, Betty Ann Wing, Sandra Hawkes, Debra Battle and Erma Hinton; three uncles, Chester Hawkes, Marvin Bullock (Geraldine) and Norman ‘Larry’ Allan; a bonus sister, Melody Wing; and a host of step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
