Cornelius C Newsome Sr

Cornelius Clifford Newsome Sr. was born August 27, 1946 in Chester, Pennsylvania to the late Oscar and Estella Newsome. He departed this life peacefully on Tuesday, May 6, 2025 at Riddle Memorial Hospital in Media, PA. Cornelius, affectionately called “Cliff” was a faithful member of Temple Baptist Church for many years until his health would not permit him to fellowship. He was a member of The Pastor’s Aide Choir, The Sanctuary Choir & The Male chorus where his distinct voice was loved by many. Cliff loved singing for the Lord. He was a former member of Shiloh Baptist Church and First Faith Baptist Church. Cliff was formerly employed at Boeing in Ridley Park, PA as a Crane Operator for over 25 years until his retirement in 2011. Cliff’s prior jobs were; Widener Law School as a Security Guard, Westinghouse and a Bartender at various Bars throughout the city of Chester. Cliff was a Sailor for the United States Navy where he received an honorable discharge. Cliff was the Treasurer of a Community Organization called Black Men In Motion. This Organization consist of a group of men that mentored young men in the city. Cliff had a knack for working with young men, they all looked up to him as a Dad. Cliff loved to dance and sing and enjoyed spending time with his family. Christmas time was one of his favorite holidays. He had the longest Christmas list ever. He gave presents to everyone who entered his home. Cliff also sang with various singing groups during his younger days. One in particular was the Voices of Love. Cliff loved life and enjoyed it to the fullest. He was an avid Philadelphia sports fan. His favorite team was the EAGLES. He had all types of EAGLES gear and memorabilia. On birthdays and holidays everyone knew what to get him for the occasion, Eagles hats, tee shirts or jersey’s. Clifford was preceded in death by his son; Travis Newsome, brothers; Clarence Hooks, Walter Newsome, Oscar (Huss) Newsome, David Newsome Sr. and Terry Newsome, sisters; Beatrice Parker, Gladys Patterson, Bernice Germany and Idora Harper. Clifford leaves to cherish his memories; two daughters; Teresa Garrett-Boyd & Lenshina Garrett. Two sons; Trenton Newsome & Cornelius Newsome Jr. (Jasmilyn) five grandsons whom resided with him; Azari, Ca’vari, Caden, Caleel & Caleb Newsome. Twenty Three grands & Nine great grands. Daughter-In Law; Denise Newsome. Five Stepchildren whom he raised; Deidra, Wanda, Marty, Eric Starkey & Tamika Harper all of Chester, PA. A special niece; Terri Lynn Bridgeford who was his caretaker and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family that will keep his memories alive.
