Constance Jones

Constance Marie Jones (nee Noel) was born on February 16,1932 to the late Albert and Helen Lee Noel in King & Queen County, Virginia. She was a fraternal twin with her sister, Ersell. Her father passed away when she was a very young child and her mother relocated to Philadelphia to seek employment. Constance and her five siblings – Dorothy, Herbert, twins Selena and Edward, and Ersell, were left in the care of Grandmom Noel. After her passing, their maternal grandmother, Maria Lee, moved from Philadelphia to Virginia to care for the children. Constance received her primary and secondary education in Virginia before also moving to Philadelphia to find employment, eventually retiring from a career in banking. In Philadelphia, she met, fell in love with, and married Edwin Jones, a marriage that endured until his passing in 1997. Together, they created two children, Constance Alberta and Lamar, for whom they provided a nourishing and fulfilling life. The root of that life was the house they purchased at 5729 Delancey Street in West Philadelphia. That home remained a welcoming beacon for her children as adults, her grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Mom/Nana was always eager to provide a hot meal, a warm embrace and wise advice. Miss Connie, as she was known to all in the neighborhood, had a great sense of humor, a smile that brightened every space and an infectious laugh. She ensured that her children were raised in the church and baptized at an early age. She was very active in that church, 59th Street Baptist, serving as an usher, singing in the choir, and participating on a number of committees. She was also keenly interested in politics, regularly working the local polling place, and was a vocal supporter of Dr, Martin Luther King, Jr. and others working to improve the lives of black people in America. She was an avid animal lover and had a number of cats and dogs during her life. Her current cat, Tiger, was always a joy to her, snuggling and eager to be petted. Constance was close to all of her siblings, often driving Dorothy, Selena, and Ersell to Virginia to visit brother Herbert and other family. Those drives mirrored her love of travel. She enjoyed going to the Bahamas, to California to visit her brother-in-law, and other locations. When Lamar joined the Air Force she added Germany, New York and Oklahoma to her travel resume. Blessed by God with longevity, Constance outlived her husband, siblings, brothers and sisters-in- law, and a number of nieces and nephews, all of whom she dearly loved and missed. She is survived by Constance and husband Calvin, and Lamar and wife Debra. Grandsons: Iman, Lamar and wife Niki, Myles, Malcolm, Terrell. Granddaughters: Mia, Tyisha, Amanda. Great granddaughters: Zoe, Kaiya, Kiera, Micah, Amaya, Brooklyn. Great grandsons: Iman Jr, Leland, Leton, William. Daughters-in-Love: Deborah, Vickie, Danielle, Tera. All of us deeply mourn and miss this strong, loyal, loving woman who has ever been the rock in our lives and the foundation on which those lives were built. We love you Mom/Nana. God has called you home and we say goodbye with tears in our eyes but joy in our hearts because you have peacefully transitioned to your eternal place of love and happiness.
