Alonzo Leroy Jones Jr

Alonzo Leroy Jones Jr. was born to the late Alonzo Leroy Jones Sr. and Opra Lee Chesson in Clayton, Delaware on September 17, 1940. Lonnie as he was affectionately known was elevated from earth to eternal on Thursday, July 2, 2025 He was a memorable student of Howard High School where he was known for being a star football player and skirt chaser. In 1957 Lonnie met and married Sevella Harris and thru their union he was blessed with 6 children, Alonzo (Lonnie) Leroy Jones III (Tara Bash), Raymond (Ray) Jones (Beverly Jones), Carmen Jones (Anthony Kelson), Katrina (Trina) Jones-Milner (Clare Milner-Jones), Lorin (Scotty) Jones and Charlton Jones and twice blessed with 30 grand children, 30 great grand children with 1 on the way and 13 great great grand children. Thru Carolyn Smith he was blessed with June Williams (Jeffrey Williams) and twice blessed with 2 grand children, 6 great grand children and 1 on the way. Thru Doris Flowers he was blessed with Lyonni Michelle Flowers and twice blessed with 2 grand children and 4 great grand children. Thru Karen Hamlin he was blessed with Demetrius Hamlin (Shonta Parson), Brenda Roberts (John Roberts) and Ronald Hamlin (Charmissha Hamlin) and twice blessed with 12 grand children and 4 great grand children. Thru his marriage to Virginia Frazier he was blessed with 1 daughter Miracle Renee Jones. He was gainfully employed in several trades and occupations such as a masonry contractors assistant, an auto assembly linesman, a computer chip assembler and in 1966 a bridge maintenance and repairman for the Delaware River and Bay Authority until his retirement. Lonnie was well known for his dapper sense of style and fashion, his suit and tie always sharp and tight with matching hat and shoes just right, and could bop anybody off the dance floor. His love for sports led him to excel as a semi-pro football player and semi-pro boxer, and his passion for football led him to become the coach for The Raiders and The Trojan youth football teams here in Delaware. Lonnie was a member of the Aristocrats Mens Social Club and the Thunder Guards, Wilmington, De. Chapter and later became the president of the Thunder Guards Chester, Pa. Chapter. He enjoyed playing his lottery numbers and shooting pool Lonnie was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents, his father and mother, his brothers Emedio (Larry) Jones and Alton Jones, his sisters Ruth (Peggy) Smith and Elnora (Eleanor) Maxwell, his daughters June and Miracle, and grandsons Kevin Smoke and Raymond Stewart. He is survived by his sisters Mary (Muggy) Brown, Vanessa Evans, and brother Anthony Ray Slaughter, his special cousin Ruby Hinson, surviving children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins, and in-laws, and loving goddaughter Omeka Alston.
